The programme included a meeting with the new Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Colombia, Mrs. Kateřina Lukešová, and a visit to two universities in Bucaramanza - Universidad Santo Tomas and Universidad de Santander (UDES). Our university has already signed a student exchange agreement with the Universidad de Santander, and two of our students have already spent a semester there. UDES would like to extend cooperation to other areas now; for example, it would like to welcome our teachers to participate in teaching there. With Universidad Santo Tomas, a student exchange agreement is being prepared; as part of it, we are supposed to welcome the first student in the next semester. This university is also interested in professional cooperation. The next stop of the Rector and the Dean was Quito, where they planned to visit two other universities – Universidad Pacifico and Universidad Central de Ecuador. Both universities showed great interest in cooperating with VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava. At the same time, a student exchange agreement was signed with Universidad Central de Ecuador. During the Sunday meeting, the Rector and the Dean met representatives of other institutions, namely Colegio de Ingenieros of Geologia Minas Petroleo y Ambiente, Instituto Investigacion Geologico y Energetico Ecuador and Subscretario Subdirector Technico. The area of South America is particularly interesting from the viewpoint of the mining industry, where our university has a lot of experience that it can pass on to local universities, for example by training experts. The field of possible cooperation is, of course, much broader.
