Interview with a graduate of Economics and Management in the Field of Raw Materials

Department 545 brings another interview with our graduate. This time Ing. Marek Ballarin, Ph.D., who works at ISOTRA a.s. is sharing his experience with us.

How did you end up in the ISOTRA a.s. after graduation and what positions you have been through in the company?

I replied to a job offer on the Internet. Using the services of a recruitment agency, I was chosen for a personal interview provided directly at the company, and then things took a quick turn. Prior to this job, I also worked as a sales representative for German-speaking countries, but at another company.

What position do you currently hold and what do you consider to be the most challenging?

I work as a sales representative for the Austrian market dealing with shading technology. The most demanding is communication at a high technical level with customers provided, of course, in a foreign language – in German. Shading technology products are quite complex, although at first glance it does not look like it.

If you looked back at your study, how would you evaluate the content of your branch? What courses or areas were the most beneficial to your current job content?

The content of my studies has always been very comprehensive in the areas of economics, business, marketing, or entrepreneurship. During my studies at VSB – TUO, I always appreciated the most practical knowledge of teachers who subsequently passed it on to us. This information and experience are always priceless. Of course, the most beneficial courses for my job were Economics, Management, Pricing Systems, Marketing, Business and Labor Law, Analysis of Economic Operations, Raw Materials Trade and German (I hope I have not forgotten any course – that would make me feel sorry).

Is there, on the contrary, any area that you consider less useful for your professional life?

I do not use much university Mathematics or Physics, but I do not want to disparage these subjects in any way. It was these two courses that helped me develop my logical thinking, understanding, and creation of logarithms, and taught me to derive certainties from abstract things.

Why would you recommend studying study programmes at the Department of Economics and Management System to your successors?

I would recommend studying in this Department for several reasons. Among the essentials is the personal approach of teachers to their students, the high competence of teachers, practical activities (field experience) during the studies, a general overview obtained by the study and the wide range of applications after the successful completion of studies.
