The ceremony of presenting the Order of the Rising Sun necklace was held on Thursday, August 26, at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador in Prague. The event was attended by representatives of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, governmental and academic institutions, the Japanese Chamber of Industry and Trade in the Czech Republic, JETRO Prague and colleagues of prof. Ing. Bohumír Strnadel, DrSc.
He was awarded for his work in deepening Czech-Japanese relations. He has made a major contribution to the promotion of scientific research and academic-industrial cooperation between the Czech Republic and Japan. “Professor Strnadel has long supported academic exchange between the two countries, which includes the admission of Japanese scientists to the VSB - technical university of Ostrava,” said the Japanese ambassador at the award ceremony. Professor Strnadel himself has visited Japan several times, worked at Japanese state universities and participated in joint projects in advanced and innovative technologies. “He has been instrumental in expanding relations with Japanese academia and industry.” Bohumir Strnadel is also involved in the implementation of the regular Czech-Japanese workshop on new methods in damage analysis of structural materials, which has been held eight times since 2004, and which enjoys high prestige and numerous participation of scientists from Japan and the Czech Republic as well as other countries.
