RESULT OF THE NCK MESTEC PROJECT - Č. TN01000071
Topologically optimized cutting tool

The result of the project is a topologically optimized cutting tool made by 3D printing. The powder material made of titanium alloy Ti64-ELI was used for the production and the Selective Laser Melting 3D printing technology was used, where the production of metal powder by laser melting in an inert atmosphere takes place. The functional sample weighs 76 grams and measures 60 x 30 x 30 mm.

The main advantage of the result is a weight reduction of 55% compared to the original tool. As a result, it brings significant savings in material costs. By reducing the weight of the tool, lower vibrations are also achieved while increasing the stability of the tool during the cutting process. The cutting tool also has a higher service life in the cutting process or longevity.

With 3D printing, a model with complex geometry can be produced almost immediately without production delays with high added value, quality and attractive design. The usability of the result extends to all industries where metallic 3D printing can be used.
