A Japanese expert specialising in materials science will give a lecture not only on science
A lecture by Osamu Umezawa, an expert in materials science, will be held on May 4. During the lecture, he will discuss how materials behave at extremely low temperatures, share insights into the role PhD students and young researchers play in research, studies at Yokohama National University, and its significant achievements. The lecture, organized by PhD Academy, is open to PhD students and researchers.

An agreement was signed late last year between Yokohama National University’s Faculty of Engineering, where Professor Umezawa serves as Dean, and representatives of the management of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, for the extension of the Double Degree Program. During their meetings, the representatives from VSB-TUO and their Japanese partners explored opportunities for closer cooperation, including the possibility of lectures for the PhD Academy and deeper collaboration on international projects. One exciting outcome of this partnership is the upcoming visit by Professor Umezawa to Ostrava, where he will be giving a lecture entitled Mechanical Properties at Cryogenic Temperatures.

Osamu Umezawa, a professor of physical metallurgy, has held positions as a research fellow and senior researcher at the National Research Institute for Metals in Japan. He also worked as a visiting research fellow at the University of Cambridge between 1993 and 1995. In the last four years, he has contributed to the OP VVV project of Innovative Therapeutic Methods of Musculoskeletal System in Trauma Surgery carried out at our university.

The lecture will take place on May 4 at 8:30 in UA3.
