"The ranking evaluates four key areas: scientific impact, collaboration, open access publications, and gender diversity. It offers insights into universities' performance not just overall, but also across five main disciplines: Biomedical and Health Sciences, Life and Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Physical Sciences and Engineering, and Social Sciences and Humanities. Unlike other rankings, it does not consider academic reputation or teaching quality. Instead, it allows users to create a ranking based on various indicators," explained Kateřina Angus, International Evaluation and Rankings Officer at VSB-TUO.
In the "Proportion of international collaborative publications" category, which measures the proportion of university’s publications that have been co-authored with researchers from two or more countries, VSB-TUO ranks 290th globally and fifth among Czech universities, with 63.1 per cent of such works. Particularly in the field of Mathematics and Computer Science, VSB-TUO excels with 69.9 per cent of collaborative publications, placing it first domestically and 97th in Europe. This places it seventh nationally and 858th globally. Within specific disciplines, the highest rate of industrial collaboration was in Physical Sciences and Engineering, where 7.6 per cent of publications involved industrial partners—the best result among the nine assessed Czech universities.
