VSB-TUO improves in QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025
VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) has improved its position in the international QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025 (formerly QS EECA). This year's edition includes 684 universities from 42 countries, with 17 from the Czech Republic, the same as last year. VSB-TUO is ranked 381st overall, 34th out of 133 universities in Eastern Europe, and ninth in the domestic comparison.

"VSB-TUO has not only improved its overall position but has also advanced in several indicators. In Employer Reputation, it is now ranked 246th (up from 251+ last year), and sixth in the Czech Republic. In terms of the Proportion of International Students, VSB-TUO has moved from 265th to 228th place. Nationally, the University has excelled in the Number of Papers per Faculty, maintaining second place as last year. Additionally, VSB-TUO has significantly increased its score for the International Research Network (IRN) indicator, rising from 9.6 to 22.8 points, though it remains in the 301+ position. The IRN index reflects institutions' ability to diversify their international research network by establishing sustainable research partnerships. The Proportion of International Faculty has also improved, with the score rising from 9 to 11.7 year-on-year.

"VSB-TUO is a socially responsible institution that aligns a significant part of its activities with the principles of sustainable development, which is reflected in this ranking, specifically in the sustainability category. It ranked 7th nationally," Angus added.

In the QS Eastern Europe sub-regional ranking, universities from the Czech Republic are included along with those from Bulgaria, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. Five Czech universities have appeared in the top ten: Charles University (1st), Masaryk University (4th), Czech Technical University in Prague (5th), Palacký University Olomouc (8th), and Brno University of Technology (10th) out of a total of 133 universities.

In the overall European ranking, Charles University was 79th among domestic universities, followed by Masaryk University (143rd) and Czech Technical University in Prague (177th). The European ranking is led by ETH Zurich, Imperial College London, and the University of Oxford.
