First, we head to Western Europe, to Ghent, Belgium. In Belgium's fourth largest city you will find HOGENT University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which is the largest university of applied sciences and arts in Flanders. The university offers a wide range of study programmes in eight different campuses not only in Ghent but also in the city of Aalst:
School of Teacher Training
School of Healthcare
School of Social Welfare
School of Built Environment
School of IT and Digital Innovation
School of Business and Management
School of Bioscience and Industrial Technology
School of Arts
HOGENT for students
Belgium, and more specifically HOGENT, is a popular Erasmus+ destination for our students. Since the academic year 2020/2021, several dozen of our students, most of them from the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, have spent a semester or two at the university. The students especially appreciate the practically oriented teaching and the approach of the local teachers. We have been preparing several interviews with the students who studied there, so you can already look forward to them.
HOGENT for scientists and researchers
HOGENT is also a major player in the field of science and research. It focuses on applied research and research in the arts. There are business specialists, environmental technologists, landscape architects, health professionals or engineers and bioengineers. Like the VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, HOGENT aims to do research with a sustainable impact. Research is carried out in 12 research centres. The 360° Care and Well-being is especially worth-mentioning as it helps the university to implement quality care and assistance that will stand the test of time. Also, the so-called FTILab+ is also of great interest – it creates imaginative solutions that will enable the textile, fashion and other manufacturing industries to transform themselves into digitised or bio-based businesses. Another research centre at HOGENT is the Research Centre for Sustainable Organizations, which focuses on maximising sustainable value creation, especially in small and medium-sized organisations. More information about HOGENT's research centres can be found on the university website.
HOGENT is also a popular destination for Erasmus+ staff mobilities, with 9 members of our staff visiting the university in the academic year 2023/2024.
HOGENT for people
Ghent is the fourth largest city in Belgium and the capital of the province of East Flanders. There is a reason they say it is one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium, with the largest number of rare historical monuments per square metre in Europe. It is a city of many faces: not only is it home to 65 000 university students, but it hosts many trade fairs and conferences and other events; it is a port with an industrial tradition, and it is also called the flower city thanks to its many parks, large green spaces and extensive flower plantings.
