Recent events in Ukraine and the United States have triggered a chain of events, opinions and decisions that were previously unthinkable in Europe. "Our thoughts are with our Ukrainian partners in Odessa," the rectors of U!REKA universities wrote in a statement. The unpredictability of the situation and consideration of the potential impact create uncertainty and tension.
During their meeting in March, the rectors reflected on what the current events we face as a European society could mean for the U!REKA Alliance of European Universities. They agreed on one thing: the alliance cannot remain inactive. In their discussions, they focused on improving media literacy, fact-checking and promoting logical and critical thinking among their students. “It is necessary to anticipate the professional directions of the future and to adapt our curricula to the current needs of society,” said the rectors. The mission of the U!REKA Alliance is clear – to educate and protect our European values of freedom, democracy, equality, respect for human rights and human dignity.
