How U!REKA works: UAS professor in Frankfurt brings innovation and teaching together

Prof. Dr. Jens Liebehenschel, together with students from Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and HOGENT, is developing an innovative learning tool for informatics.

"My goal is to create a learning tool focused on algorithms and data structures. We are involved in the development with HOGENT, which is one of our partners in the U!REKA alliance. I want to involve not only master students but also bachelors," says Jens Liebehenschel. Older students are in charge of the development of the tool and are responsible for it, while younger students will learn to work with the latest technologies.

Cooperation with HOGENT was created thanks to the U!REKA alliance. "I wanted to work with a university that I can get to without having to travel by air. In addition, HOGENT is implementing the IT Professional project, where students work 20 hours a week in the IT field, which will allow us to test our tool in practice," explains Professor Liebehenschel.

The next step will be joint software development projects at both universities. Students and educators will meet in person at the beginning of the semester in Ghent and at the end of the semester in Frankfurt. Meanwhile, the project is being developed digitally. This international dimension of the project brings a valuable experience for all involved.
