For the first time, PhD students from the University of Ostrava and the Silesian University in Opava joined, allowing interdisciplinary teams to be formed across the region. The result of the two-day collaboration was the design of scientific projects evaluated by an expert jury.
The collaboration across institutions only confirmed the main idea of the camp – that science knows no boundaries. Participants were divided into five teams and worked on the design of interdisciplinary projects with the aim of proposing joint research that could lead to joint scientific publication in the future. During the two days of intensive cooperation, they were led by experienced mentors, including the international expert on scientific communication and interdisciplinary studies Dr. Sam Illingworth.
At the end of the event, the results of the team work were presented before an expert committee. The following teams performed best:
The awards included financial rewards or payment of publication and conference fees. Not only the professional level, but also the degree of interdisciplinarity, team cooperation and future potential of the project were evaluated. The added value of the camp was also taken away by the mentors, who also found future collaborators.
The goal of the camp is long-term support for sharing experiences, linking disciplines and finding ways to effective scientific publishing. Thank you to all participants and we look forward to next year!
