International meeting of the BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) Ostrava 2025

BIP – an international event within the European university alliance U!REKA – is currently taking place at Faculty of Mining and Geology.

The theme of this year's BIP is Industrial Past, Sustainable Future: Pathways to a Greener Tomorrow.

Participants from universities in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Finland and Ireland focus on environmental and social challenges with an emphasis on sustainable development.

The first day was opened by prof. Heviánková from the organising Department of Environmental Engineering, followed by an introductory lecture by prof. Ivan about the transformation of our region. Ice breaker "Hello Stranger Bingo" helped participants quickly establish contacts and create international teams.

The programme includes lectures and workshops on topics such as:

• Industrial Past, Sustainable Future

• Sustainability of Mass Cultural Events

• Sustainability and Centres of Expertise U!REKA

• Sustainability in the Construction Industry

• Facing Global Crisis and Disasters from a Nursing Perspective

team workshops focused on solving specific environmental scenarios.
Today, participants will have an excursion to the Landek mining area with a visit to the Mining Rescue exposition and a foray into the mine. The afternoon will end with a visit to the Nošovice brewery – demonstrations of the connection of tradition and sustainability. In the following days, they will also have trips to Velke Losin, Planetarium Ostrava and other interesting places in our region.

Huge thanks to the organizers from the Department of Environmental Engineering, especially Kateřina Brožová and Jan Halfara, for the great organization and smooth running of the whole week.

We share know-how, look for new ways and connect science, sustainability and people across Europe – thanks to the U!REKA alliance.
