The PhD Academy is now offering new courses. Registration has started
Registration for the summer semester courses at the PhD Academy has started. The range of courses has been extended compared to last semester. Doctoral students can now choose from a total of 44 courses. In addition to the tried and tested "regulars", the PhD Academy also offers a number of hot new courses.

"Our aim is always to be open to the suggestions and needs of our doctoral students and to have a wide range of courses on offer. Therefore, in addition to proven activities, we are also introducing new topics- this semester, for example, we will be focusing on the communication of science. Students will learn why it is important to bring science closer to the public and what methods can be used to do so. They will find out how communication varies with different media and try out a mock interview for television or radio," said Lucie Hofrichterová, administrator of the PhD Academy.

According to the organizers, a one-day course with experimental physicist and data scientist Martin Kroupa could be a great inspiration for doctoral students. A specialist in radiation detection, Kroupa has worked in the world's leading laboratories and government-funded institutes, including NASA, as well as private organisations. “He will share the story behind a slightly different American dream. He will reveal what it is like to be a Czech scientist working abroad and how much experience you need to gain before venturing beyond the borders of your own country," added Hofrichterová.

Other lecturers will also bring their insight and experience from abroad. Among them, for example, the physicist Conor O' Carrol from Ireland, who will address the topic of Open Science. Furthermore, you can look forward to Sam Illingworth’s interactive workshop on creating analogue games based on research.

Soft skills are an important part of professional competence, and the PhD Academy will focus on developing these skills to a greater extent in the upcoming semester. It will offer courses called Managerial Interviews, Feedback, Career Management, or Interdisciplinary Collaboration. A course on presentation skills will help you identify your own strengths and talents as well as ways to develop them effectively.

Registration for PhD Academy courses has already started, doctoral students can register via IS Edison in the CZV tab. Courses are held in Czech or English. Students will receive a certificate of completion and some courses can be credited as part of dissertation seminar activities. You can find more information on the PhD Academy website.
